Troubleshooting and look up what the codes mean. 😳
Lot of info out there on the net.

I'm not sure of the fix but the 1214 code is a "solenoid relay contact or coil circuit open" and the 1287 code is "steering sensor rate malfunction".
Hope this helps!

many thanks. That’s a much better response than the typical “google it” response you guys are known for. 😂😂😂

The C1214 code is telling you the relay contacts in the EBCM are burned/corroded or the electric motor in the BPMV has low resistance between the field circuit and ground. The proper solution is to check the circuit using the FSM diagnostic procedure and determine if the EBCM or the BOMV need replacing or that both of them need replacing. The relay can be replaced by the aftermarket EBCM repair companies but that is all they can replace. Replacing the relay can sometimes make the circuit work again even though the problem may have been due to excessive current draw from a low resistance BPMV. After a while, the replacement relay may go bad due to excessive current.

C1287 is a steering sensor code.

The first thing I think I would do is check all of the power and ground connections to the ABS circuit. The BPMV is grounded at the ground point on the frame near the EBCM/BPMV pair. Check to make sure the ground connection isn't corroded, dirty or loose. The ground for the electronic circuitry in the EBCM is located on the passenger side frame rail toward the rear of the engine and below the battery location. There should be two ground points at that location. Also, check the battery condition and the battery cable ground and positive connections and make sure they are clean and tight. Both of those codes are related to voltage levels so any dirt/corrosion in the circuit will drop the voltage level at the module. If you do a search you will find plenty of copies of the FSM diagnostic procedure. I know I posted it about 50 times when I had my C5s back in the early 2000s to 2009.

A C5 can be between 17 and 24 years old so electrical contact contamination can be a real issue.

On the money response. OP, I don't know what MY C5 you have. For your sake, I hope you have the '01-'04 model. Because if this develops into a new parts situation, the '97-'00 models have very limited solutions. There are no new parts available, and the used parts prices are $$$. A used SWPS is usually around $500, and the EBCM is almost always over $1,000. Again, used is the only choice, and beware of a $200-$250 SWPS, or a $600 EBCM. Hopefully it will be a connectivity problem. C5s are notorious for bad grounds. Good luck......
