Been thinking about going to 4.10's and would like some input from those who have them; how do you like them, are they quiet or do they whine, how about durability...street and strip? While I plan on doing some racing, 5000RPM launches are not my style. Have the hardened shaft, will 4.10s work for me. Appreciate your help and thanks.
Joe
I have the 4.10's and like them, just get used to buying tires though! As far as durability, I have quite a few 1/4 mile runs on them with no problems, however, I also had a hardened output shaft, and broke it in half the last time out. If you do a lot of road trips, it does buzz the motor pretty good, but it's nothing that's going to cause problems. Overall, I think they are great, especially for the track, but depending on how much power you have, they are almost useless on the street as you will always be spinning. Who cares how much power anyone has if you can't put it to the ground! :D
Joe, I have the 4.10's in my A4 and love them. Being as you have a 6 speed you will like them even better, especially on the highway although the RPM with the A4 is not that bad but your .5 - 6th gear ratio to my .75 - OD ratio will like them even more. :yesnod:
Re: 4.10 User's...How Do You Like 'Em??? (movinup)
I am wondering about reliability issues with the 4.10 gears. I forum vendor/tuner is trying to sway me away from the 4.10's since he has had several come back with broken gears that were not covered by the manufacturer. He recomended the Getrag 3.73's for my vette. Any thoughts as to improvements over my 3.42's. TIA! :seeya
One question! My stock MN6 2001 coupe is right on verge of breaking loose at wot in 1st and 2nd right now. In a day or two I will have the heads and cam etc. in there.
Does the throttle have to be feathered in the lower gears?

Guys, appreciate your inputs. Looks like I am going for them and plan to hang on to my 3.73s. Have the hardened shaft, so all I will require are the gears.
Bob, I just may give you a call and come drive that beast of yours.
Brent, if they have survived your launches, they should mine.
Thanks again...
Joe
From what others have said previously the hardened shaft is only necessary if you race a lot. I don't so I'm not planning on buying it - just trhe 4.10's for me (followed by a ripper shifter - maybe) :yesnod:
