Greetings to all, curious to the possibility of swapping the GETRAG 2.73 LSD from an automatic gearbox to a 6 speed manual in our C5 (2001).
We are looking for top end, lower rpm performance... Thanks for the insight! Cheers!
Yes, it is a fairly simple swap. Look for posts by me related to diff swap as I just did mine in the fall and there are links to instructions and part numbers. You go from a 2.73 to a 3.42. The car will have to be reprogrammed after the change.

You will certainly be lowering rpm in all 6 gears. I hope you realize just how steep a 2.73 gear is! There's a reason GM didn't install a gear this high as a standard ratio. 6 speeds have both 5th AND 6th gears as an overdrive. Unless you're racing at Bonneville with a 1,000+hp engine, I can't see how you'll gain any higher speed than stock. A stock C5 Z06 couldn't possibly pull 5th or 6th gear with a 2.73! Your highest top speed will probably be reached in 4th gear! At any rate, I don't think your top speed will increase at all. As for gas mileage, I believe it may actually be better with the 3.42!! I don't know, I just hope you're happy with it after the swap. Best of luck to you.......
Greetings grinder 11, the C5, Ethyl is her name, is to be a sophomore at Bonneville this August. She is a stock body entered in C/GT with a class record of 230.584 mph
held by Dave H. with a C4 configuration. We are “tuning” her for 308.001+ on the static dyno (dream crusher), scrub off 20% of that and were in the 260 range on a perfect day.. We spoke to the folks at Buffalo Gear about a 2.56 but the limited slip would have to be heavily modified to fit... Thank you for your concerns and response! From where Moses lost his snowshoes... Perhaps we’ll C’ya on the Salt! Cheers!

NOW I see!!! Well, you go, DeSoto Dan!!! All the best of luck and safety to you. Go get that record. DeSoto.......My dad (RIP dad-1916-1999) had a blue 1932 DeSoto. He called it "The Blue Goose"! Said it was a pretty strong runner in its day. Hard to believe its been almost 90 years since those 1932 models rolled off the line......Wow.......
