Brake Fluid for Regular Driving
Looking for an "excellent choice" on brake fluid for my lightly around-town driven 2004. I like Red Line for many fluids, but naturally everybody and their brother is making brake fluid. OK maybe not Pepsi, or General Mills...but all the fluid typical suspects, and now the after market brake guys are in on it. In addition to the many brand choices, there are DOT 3, 4, and 5 to consider.
This is worse than trying to choose a good cabernet!

So here I am answering part of my own thread...
apparently DOT 5 is silicone based and does not play nice with DOT 3 or 4. Something to do with acid, corrosion...

I use Pentosin Dot 4 which was supposedly what GM was rebranding into their brake fluid. I have no facts other than internet rumor but it didn't cause any problems for me when I had to replace my 15year old brake fluid. I also use it for my clutch system with no problems.
