Hey all, I bought my 98 c5 last spring and I’m the fall it started chirping and I pulled it out of storage and the chirp came back so I’m thinking it’s a bad HB as it does look like it’s wobbling. The other issue I had is ever since owning it the oil pressure has been in the 45-65 range and was that way today as well until I got on it a little bit and now oil pressure is 28-30 at 600rpms and 30-40 driving at 30-45 mph and only in the 40-45 range up to about 85-90. Oil on the dipstick looks good with no darkening just a nice golden color. Any thoughts on these?
I'm rather new to the LS engine trouble shooting but I've read about and watched videos showing examples of hydraulic lifter chirping. That combined with your oil pressure drop may be an indication of such a problem. Sure hope not.

Your OPS is going bad you should not see 85-90psi. You H/B most likely need replaced this is a common problem for these cars.
The squeak could be the belts or any of the pulleys in this picture

Just did this myself...highly recommend you do the extension/relocation while in there. Search it up on the forum and you'll find part numbers for the adapters/hoses etc. Will make the imminent replacement of the OPS down the road infinitely simpler.
Oil pressure has nothing to do with mph... what was your oil pressure gauge reading at various RPM? LS motors only need 10psi per 1k rpm. Yes it'll do just fine with 10-20psi at idle with hot oil. And 4k rpm needs at least 40psi.
Lifters don't squeak. Collapsed lifter will causing a ticking sound that also matches with rpm. Low rpm less ticking, more rpm more ticking. This can also come and go before the lifter completely collapses. If you suspect anything oil system related, do an oil change with good oil, OEM filter, and cut open the used filter to examine the filter matrix for engine metal.
Belts and pulleys can chirp, squeak, or scream depending the cause and how bad it is. Coolant on the belt or pulleys usually squeak or scream like a banshee. Pulley bearing going out usually cause the chirping sound. These should be addressed immediately because a spun bearing can also cause a chirping sound along with slight knock before it trashes itself.
Lifters don't squeak. Collapsed lifter will causing a ticking sound that also matches with rpm.
It's the roller on the end of the lifter that goes bad. Google "LS lifter chirping" and see/hear a few examples of rather unhappy LS owners. And I agree, a video would assist in trouble shooting suggestions.
If your lifter is “chirping” then it means more than likely the lifter has spun on the cam... if you want a quality video to hear what it sounds like... it happened to cleetus McFarland on “Donnie the drift vette” a few weeks ago... you can pull it up on you tube.. ... if you don’t use link bars and insist on using the lifter trays make absolutely certain they are genuine GM lifter trays...
So the chirp is waaaay worse now and the HB is def wobbling, it goes in tomorrow to get fixed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hn_Y...annel=eramsted
this is exactly what my car sounds/looks like even though its no lol
Yeah if it looks like that, it's balancer time.
Summit C2501 is the best budget option without going full on ATI balancer (overkill for most people).
