Aloha,
Our 98 coupe the DIC is locked up? Stuck? FRIED? On change oil soon screen and will not change. Repeated attempts to change screen no luck. All others buttons(trip, reset, etc) are unresponsive. Looked for sticking buttons. Any ideas what causes? remedies? Thanks
My DIC (buttons) quit working 3 - 4 months ago. I was told by a shop that only works on Corvettes that the instrument cluster has to be taken out, sent off to be rebuilt, re-programed and put back in. He told me $600 - $800 depending on the price of the re-build.
You're certainly not alone. Someday, someone will come out with a real fix for this. Right now, the only solutions work around adapting or modifying equipment that was built around the same time the dead ones in our cars were built. At prices that will make you question your recent C5 purchase. Ain't going there. Keeping my fingers crossed....
Honestly, the car should run well without the DIC and you may get by if you can buy or borrow a scan tool to keep electronic gremlins at bay.
