I am looking about getting a c5 vette (probably 2001 or newer coupe, with a 4A.)...The first problem is that it is going to be a daily driver (only car.) The second problem is that I live in California, so the car has to pass 50-state emissions...So I would like to mod the car and I am looking for 12.2-12.4 quarter mile performance, and I still need everyday relibility. I am going to get a performance axle ratio, if that helps any, also does the performance axle ratio hinder the top end speed of the car??
Any help on this subject would be greatly Appreciated.
Re: California Emissions Performance & Relibility (Punisher32x)
He He, oops typo in my post above. It is going to be a A4 (automatic) car. Also I was wondering if I put 3.42 or 4.10's in the car how much will it help the 1\4 mile times.
Re: California Emissions Performance & Relibility (Punisher32x)
3.42 will defiantly help your 1/4 times. If you think you are going to go that route do not pay extra for the performance axel. There may be an issue if you want Z51 suspension though. I think you can get the performance axel without Z51 but I do not think you can get the Z51 without the performance axel.
For those ETs you will probably need a laundry list of mods including gears and a torque converter. You will compromise some daily road worthiness with a high stall converter but exactly how much will be a matter of personal opinion. Someone who has one can better inform you there.
I think WallStreetAl has run times in that neighborhood with an A4 vert. Do a search for him and send him an IM.
Re: California Emissions Performance & Relibility (SoCal C5)
I hear my name, my car is not a daily driver, however it could be with no problem. See my Perf Mods in the sig, hoping for a 12.0?. If I can get some M/T ET Streets and some colder weather, which is not possible in Sunny So. Cali. I wish it would get down in the low 60's in the day since we don't have any night 1/4 track at a low elavation! Ha
Re: California Emissions Performance & Relibility (wallstAL)
High stall converter and a supercharger. Both Vortech and ATI make 50-state CARB approved models. You'll be there, and never once having to open the engine...
Re: California Emissions Performance & Relibility (Punisher32x)
Thanks for all the info guys. It sounds like the best way to go is probably with the 3.42's. The question I still have though is if I put 3.42's in, will my top end speed of say 170mph decrease??...Also if I go with the 3.42's do I have to change the torque convert.??
Thanks :D
Also do any of you guys know of a good place in Northern California that does mods on c5 corvettes??
