Default 1998 Automatic Valeo Alternator

Hello.

I have a 1998 A4 that has a squeak in the alternator pulley, this is the pulley without the clutch type, is it possible to just put on a clutch type pulley on this alternator? I can't find the pulleys without the clutch anymore so might aswell see if I can upgrade.

Got a picture? IIRC. all A4 cars had the decoupler pulley. And yes you can still get the decoupler pulley new last I checked

I don't have a clear picture right now (not in the garage now), but there you can see it doesnt have the decoupler, after some googling it seems like they didn't put on the decoupler before 2001 A4's. Best thing would just be able to get one of these pulleys, but if it's easy to upgrade to a newer one myself and its just bolt on i might aswell do it

If you don't have the decoupler pulley then it may be a bearing inside the alternator and you can get the bearing for that. There is also a idler pulley below the alt. that can make noise
Also, spray some water on the belt and see if the noise goes away

Should be the bearing in the alternator then, I have had problems with noise for the past year. I fix sound from one pulley and after some weeks there is sound somewhere else, all belts has also been replaced recently.

I have replaced all of mine and it's an 02. The grease in them just dries out
