Default C5 Control Modules

I'm sure this topic has been well discussed, but I'm still seeking answers. How many of the 12 control modules are critical to C5 operation? How many early versions ('97- '99?) can be replaced by later versions? I have read about the module (RFA) which controls fobs/door locks being exchanged for the later version because of lower-cost fobs. But what about the ECBM? What about all the others? I don't want to sink major $$ into the carI love, only to have it made useless because the ECBM or PCM fails.

The only modules critical to the car running and driving are the PCM and BCM. These must be working and communicating with each other.

I'm pretty sure that if you exchange the RFA module for the later version, you will also need to change your TPMS sensors to the later versions as well in addition to the fob. The early TPMS sensors output a different signal frequency compared to the later ones. The later EBCM can be retrofitted into early cars (that have the EBCM in the engine bay), but there is some rewiring required and custom brake lines/existing line re-routing required. I don't know if anyone has successfully retrofitted a late BCM into an early car with the EBCM mounted in the rear. Take a look at this thread for the EBCM retrofit: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...m-success.html

I haven't done research into early/late compatibility for any of the other modules, hopefully I answered at least a couple of your questions.
