Ok, talking with a fellow corvette owner and he told me about the fuel crossover tube leaking on a 04 corvette. He thought it only affected certain vin numbers. Does any body know if this is true?? And would you know which Vin numbers. I bought my vette 2 years ago with 22,000 miles on it. I'm 3rd owner. Is there any where I can go to see if this was fixed on my corvette. Thks in advance

Yep, true. Here are VIN numbers affected by the fuel tank crossover failure in late 2003 and 2004 C5's: 45110258 to 45125500. Hopefully your's does not fall within those numbers.
If your vin is falls into one of the affected vin numbers you can check with your Chevy dealer to see if it was fixed under the recall. If it wasn't then there is nothing you can do except sell it if you are afraid of it leaking or are not prepared to pay the 2k or so it would cost to fix it. Most of these failed early in the life of the car so chances are you are ok. I bought a 04 with 31k miles almost 3 years ago and so far so good, no leak. I don't worry about it since there's nothing I can do about it. I only think about it when this question comes up in the forum. I believe that my car is old.enough and has been used long enough that it would have failed by now if it was going to fail.
Write your full Vin down and call or visit the dealer.
Can anyone say why exactly these leaked or how it was fixed?
And 2k or sell is ridiculous and I hope just humor. The tanks are a pain to get out, but easy to work on from there. I'd call it a weekend project. If you wanted to buy extensions and connectors for the different hat location you could even install an older pair of fuel tanks and the rubber style crossover. Parts might be about $350 for two tanks, a tube, and whatever fuel lines/fittings you'd need.

The gas tanks have molded connectors that the stainless steel crossover tube connects to. The tube connects the two tanks together. They leak because the molded connector on one of the gas tanks cracks. The manufacturer of the connector did not mix the components that the connector is made of for the proper amount of time. This produced a connector that was weaker than the one that was tested and qualified.
It is a little bit of humor, but what I was saying is that don't worry about it because it's either going to break or not, and there's nothing you can do about it anyway.
