For the last year I've had my fair share of squeaks from the belt drive in my 98 C5. It first started with the tensioner pulley bearing being shot, so I replaced that, problem solved. I then had a problem with the serpentine belt squeaking, replaced that and another problem solved. Then later on my AC tensioner pulley bearing was all dry. I packed this bearing with grease and that also fixed my problem. Also just a couple of weeks after that I got a squeak in the AC belt....... Replaced that and OK again.......
Now after 3 weeks of driving after having the car stored over winter I got a new squeak. I saw my main drive belt tensioner wobbling quite alot actually, then I replaced the tensioner and I still have the squeak. Now I did drive for some hours with the squeak because I was quite far away from home. So this time I'm thinking the serpentine belt I installed last summer, is bad because my tensioner has been out of alignment and have been wobbling, thus putting alot of strain on the belt. Does this sound like a good theory? My AC belt isn't even on at the moment so it can't be anything related to the AC drive.
Spraying water on the serpentine belt on either side makes the squeaking go away, I went over every god **** pulley making sure they are good. What do you think, should I try to pick up another belt and see? They do cost quite abit since I live in Norway. I have ordered some gatorback belts, but they won't arrive in like 1 month or so, and I have a shop nearby selling standard replacement belts for american cars.
If your pulley system is all ok I would try the Continental Elite serpentine belts
I have ordered them already, but the wait is about 1 month, so im picking up a normal dayco belt untill that comes, a local shop can get me one on the day.
