I failed to do enough research last year and bought the Comp set. Two came missing a bearing and 3 had quite a bit of friction/binding. I scrapped them and bought the CHE set and couldn't be happier...except for wasting money on the Comp set of course
When the initial panic set in, about the OE trunnions coming apart, I bought the CompCams kit, and installed them in my car. At that point in time, they were about $125, IIRC, and the only other game in town, was sending your rockers to CHE, to have them install their bushing/trunnion kit. That ran about $400, and since I don't race the car, I felt that the CompCams kit would suffice.
I suppose you could say that the CompCams kit was "adequate", but it sort of annoyed me that the engine still had the "loud sewing machine" sound, even with the new trunnion kit. A while later, Straub Technology released their DIY trunnion kit, with the bushings, to the market. I bought that kit, installed it, and immediately noticed that the valvetrain was a lot quieter. Do the bushings perform any better that the bearings? Probably not, but the engine sure sounds a lot better.
If anybody is interested in a slightly used, CompCams trunnion kit, get it touch with me...........
This is good stuff. A similar thread a while back convinced me to stay with the stock rockers. If I were to change them some day - too would go with the bushings.
