Default Ignition or key problem or gremlin...need help!

Hello all,
Still getting to know my new to me, 2000 C5 Convert. Little gremlin to get help on. Yesterday, drove about 10 miles and made a stop. For reference I was using my spare aftermarket key and fob. Came back to head home, started the car, put it into reverse and it died. Did this a few times before I notice the message on the dash saying something like "remove key, wait 10 seconds and restart". I did exactly that and the car started and I got home safely. Today, went to cars and coffee with the only original key and fob I have. Went to leave after an hour, same thing happened again. pull the key, wait 10 seconds and made it home. Can you give me some hints as to what to do? Would hate to have this happen when my Wife drives the car!
Thanks,
Gary

Have you installed the LMC5 Steering Column lock bypass? If no and you have a M6 Trans, I suggest doing it. If yes, then try squirting some CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner into the ignition key hole. I had your problem several years ago after installing the LMC5 and after doing the squirting, I have had no further problems. Does the same thing happen with Wife's Key? If no, may the after market key is the problem. Another fix may involve replacing the ignition switch that may be faulty.

Since you have a 2000 you will need a LMC5 whether you have an automatic or manual. Any GM recall for the Column Lock does not fully address the issue.
The LMC5 will bypass the column lock and correct the timing error the generates the "Pull Key..." message.

It has happened with both the factory key, today and the newly made key yesterday. All the keys I got with the car. Thank you for the advice and it is an auto trans.

Thanks SilverC54me.. Manual or auto, need the LMC5. Any advice where to get those? I will also try the little electrical cleaner idea if you all think that is the first step?

You can get the LMC5 from ComplianceParts.com.

Giving the BCM a few moments to wake up can be helpful. I turn the key on and wait for the "Corvette by Chevrolet" to finish before cranking.

Common problem with our cars, my 97 goes for months without experiencing the pull key message. Some say low voltage, timing, causes this to happen. Since your car is an automatic, I would suggest the LMC5, my car is M6 so I have not installed the LMC5, because I would have a car that the steering wheel doesn't lock, an automatic can't be shifted without the key.

I would highly recommend getting your battery load tested. The electrical systems don't appreciate low voltage.
