I am thinking about painting the calipers our FRC VHT caliper paint. I know painting the calipers has been covered before. I plan Not to remove them from the car; however, will meticulously tape them.
For those using VHT - what were your experiences pro and con?
How did you clean the calipers?
Did you use primer first?
Did you use clear as final coat?
I plan to lightly sand the CORVETTE on front to expose the aluminum. My wheels are matte black and silver.
thank you in advance
I used VHT caliper paint on mine and it came out great. I used brake cleaner to clean the calipers and brackets up and I did prime them first. I panted my brackets black and the calipers "Real Red". I sanded the Corvette lettering as well. I did not use any clear coat and do not think it is needed. I did not remove the calipers from the car. Just use plastic and tape to mask off the areas.

Thanks for your tips, as I'm going to be painting my calipers soon. Glad it worked out well for you. I'm offering this up only as a tip that I learned it from a painter in our shop. He uses a lot of aluminum foil as masking!!! It collapses around unusually shaped parts/areas, it's cheap, and easy to apply/remove. FWIW........
As has been noted so very many times before, this thread is worthless without photos. I, too, want to paint my calipers, want to do so on the car, want to use VHT and sand the Corvette text. I'm thinking I want gloss black to sit behind the polished thin spokes on a silver coupe, and enjoy seeing what others have come up with.
C5 ZO6 caliper powder coated from factory vs C6 caliper painted with VHT red. The powder coat is has a better gloss but the painted has held up very well.

The longest work....take out the previous red paint...
Before After
then you need to lift the car and clean out everything thoroughly with brake cleaner and brush....the car is lifted because I had one pot of high temp epoxy paint 2 components, so need to paint everything in 2-3h paint pot life time.
Protected After 2K paint Once "corvette" cleaned, scraped with utility knife
