Airbag light fix 98 C5
Last year I purchased my C5 with airbag light on and figured it would be an easy fix. My SRS knowledge from 1-10 was around 2. The car was involved in a front end crash which damaged the front cradle previous owner ran over something airbags deployed..
Someone clipped the wires to front crash sensor which I later discovered pic included. After much searching there is little advice out there on trouble shooting SRS system. Most people responded purchase Tech 2 well any scan tool that can read ABS/SRS works . I bought one for $125 Autel Maxilink ML629. After disconnecting the battery you can ohm your airbags and front crash sensors if you believe they are part of the problem. I repaired front impact sensor harness and wires first as there was voltage to yellow wire and good ground to black wire. This part no longer available new.
Moving on to SDM no longer available from GM new. If your car is involved in a front end crash it has to be reset no getting around it. It also helps to replace with the same PN. That's the stickler I reached out to Dinos Corvettes for both parts.
Disconnecting SDM is tricky
1. Remove center console and move aside heater/ac control unit. youtube console removal
2. Remove SDM 3 bolts have a long handle magnet handy it is tight in there.
3. Remove black safety latch from SDM with unit out from dash easier to release yellow connector..
4. On top of SDM each side there is a notched indentation press these in while pressing in top of harness connector .
