Since it's a major job, just to get at the bolt, if you're already into it that far, it would be a good time to replace the balancer and timing cover oil seal. With respect to holding the crank stationary, while doing the job, I used the GM tool....

you can push the rack up enough to change the bolt without removing the rack... you will obviously need to loosen the tie rods, rack to cradle bolts, probably remove the ebcm bracket, and might have to loosen the ps lines from the rack, it should be pretty straightforward once you start working on it

Also, if you're that far in, depending on vehicle miles, it would be a good time for a new timing chain, gears, and maybe an oil pump pickup tube O-ring. Just sayin.......

If your going this far, you might as well put a cam in it also
Got my harmonic balancer, bolt and crankshaft seal all changed, even with a new serpentine belt. An old mechanic at my work did it for me for 350 dollars + parts, so C5 is back in business
