For years I have been using the heavy duty Cole Hersee 24059 solenids/relay and a resetable Cooper Bussman circuit breaker for my electric fan circuits.. Had a 460 Ford Ranchero with 2 huge fans and had problems with the relays. My boater friend said forget those cheap *** plastic relays and install a 24059 relay. Never had a problem yet and use them on my carbed C4 and 455 65 Gto for my fans and my fuel pump circuits. They are kind of big compared to the plastic relays but still worth it. As with other relays these days watch out for Chinese knock offs which do not last long. All of the ones I use are USA made .

You said you let it run until full temp.. What exactly did the temperature go to? I will bet there was nothing wrong with your fan system to start with. The fans do not come on low speed until around 226 degrees unless the A/C is on.
