Harmonic balancer issue
Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone knows the symptoms of a failing harmonic balancer... just brought my vette in for banshee-like squealing from
the pulleys above the A/C...was told my balancer is toast...have to bring
it back on Monday...oh well, at least I work at a Chevy dealer :D ... dam,
I guess I can't use that excuse to take the day off :reddevil

On mine the outer ring started moving forward. I drove 200 miles to the dragstrip, made a few passes, and on the way home I stopped to stretch my legs a bit and noticed the belts really squeaking bad. I always had some 'chirp' at statrup but it was way worse. I opened the hood and could see the pulley really wobbling around so I took it easy on the way home. Decided it was time to put a cam in and swap te balancer :)
BTW, I have seen a lot of LS1 pulleys wobble a bit, this is the first one I have seen fail - but the car has 79K on it and in the last few months I have been pretty hard on it :cheers:
