Default Dropped Head valve

Drivers side intake valve cylinder #3 dropped during some maintenance work, dropped by about 1 inch(intake manifold is off the car) and I can see the rocker arm pressed downward. What’s the best way to go about lifting the intake valve while the head is still attached to the block. Any help would be great!

thanks

take the rockers off and the springs will seat the valves

Sounds like the valve keepers popped out? If the spring was there the valve wouldn't have dropped. You'll probably need a spark plug air hose to pump up the cylinder to hold the valve up while you reinstall the keepers. What happened to drop the valve?

Prior to installing the intake manifold a rubber grommet from the injector connector fell into the intake valve port. I then had to vacuum the grommet out which I did but then the valve dropped about one inch and the rocker arm pushed down on the spring leaving the valve in the opened position. I’m going to order a valve spring tool and remove the rocker arm. Hopefully the spring in the upright position without the rocker arm will seat the valve in the closed position. Keeper Definitely didn’t pop out.

Maybe a pic would help but I fail to understand how a valve can just "fall" when the spring is pushing it up as designed with almost 100lbs of force unless you rotated the engine and the cam opened the valve.

I agree. If the spring, retainer, and keepers are in place, even checking springs are powerfull enough to seat the valve. More info, and maybe a pic, would be helpful.......

I'm confused too, he said the rocker tip was down so the valve should be open... you also don't need a valve spring tool to remove the rocker, just take the bolt out... the keepers will hold the retainers and springs in place assuming none of the keepers have popped out which is not very likely but always possible

is it possible the intake valve on cylinder #3 is perfectly normal? I noticed all the other intake valves are sealed closed but the intake valve in cylinder #3 is open. I noticed the intake valve to be open after I vacuumed the port during some maintenance work. In the pictures shown you can see the valve spring is compressed by rocker #3 and intake valve is in the open position. Don’t want to bolt on the manifold and fire up the car and possibly have a valve issue.

I think you might have tricked yourself into thinking something was wrong.

Why do you think the valve shouldn't be open? That's what valves do, they open and close. If your worried you can turn the engine by hand and watch if the valve opens and then closes. If you continue to turn the engine another valve will open and close. If it's working just start it up, it will be fine.

Looks fine to me. Agree on post that says "that's what valves do".

I'll toss this into the mix, "just because". In one of the pictures that "demon" posted, it does look like there's a fair amount of carbot in that valve that's open. Anybody think that maybe a chunk of carbon is stuck on the valve seat, keeping the valve partially open?

I hope so, definitely did freak out after seeing the valve in the open position. I know that valves open and close but I could of swore it was in the closed position prior.

thanks to everyone for the advice. I ended up turning
the engine over by hand and everything was working properly.
