Default TPMS from Mods

Bought new wheels and monitors from Corvette Mods for my '99, had them installed over the winter, place that mounted them said their scanner/tool could not program them, I tried to do it from the DIC which I have done several times with no problem, but new sensors will not program. Any ideas out there? I do know the magnet I always used on the previous wheels is hard to get in close to the monitors on the new ZR1 style wheels.

Did you get sensors specifically for your model year. They changed in either 2000 or 2001 and are not backwards compatible without a module change.

1997-2000 are the same. 2001-2004 are different. Neither will work with the other, i.e., '01 & up won't work on '97-'00, and vice-versa. Hope this helps. Oh, 1 other thing; the '97-'00 are more $$ than the '01-'04......

One other issue here: Corvette Mods is notorious for sending incorrect and defective parts out then refusing to correct the issue or refund payment. Take a look at our transactions forum and spend a day or two reading complaints regarding CM. Most CF members are aware of this and do not order anything from them. This might be the problem with your sensors...

I would not be too quick to assume you were sent wrong sensors. Read through this recent post for my experience in replacing one of my 16 year old sensors.
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-corvette.html

The correct sensors for your car are the #28006 Schrader sensors, available from Rock Auto.for $25 @. If that is the sensor you were sent, you probably just need a stronger magnet.

This is assuming someone didn't change them and the RFA over to the 2001-04 system in the past. The original sensors ran about $100 @ in the past and folks found that you could swap them out for the less expensive 2001-04 sensors along with their compatible RFA and key FOBs to the earlier cars. The recommended #28006 Schrader sensors work well and at $25, there is little reason any longer to change to the newer sensors.

Good luck... GUSTO

I bought this one from Amazon... Fits around the valve stem.

Unfortunately this part seems to equate to 2287602439 - which seems to be for a 2008 Corvette
  • GMG2R3FM
  • BRAND
    Schrader Automotive
  • eBay Product ID (ePID)
    2287602439
The original part in the '97-2000 Corvette was #10438853 which has been replaced and is now interchangeable with the Schrader #28006. This is the one that has been recommended here on the Forum for a while now.

I would definitely give it a try with a stronger magnet. I found that I could program the #28006 off my car easily, but once the sensor was installed in the rim, I could not get the magnet I used as close to the sensor. I then used a second magnet along with the first and was able to get the sensor to program.

Good luck... GUSTO

That's my problem exactly, can't get the magnet even close to being around the stem with this style wheel. I'm in service at a local BMW dealer, may try the hand held transceiver from the MOSS computer. Thanks
