Default 383 Kit Suggestions

Hello all,

I am thinking of rebuilding my '04 coupe motor into a 383. Wanted to do it myself due to budget constraints although I've never rebuilt a motor before. I can read and follow directions though... bought a couple of books on it already. The rest of the drive train has been rebuilt by RPM in Anderson Ind and it's waiting on me to get motivated enough to get it assembled. Included was a C6 Z06 clutch/FW assembly. Still need a slave for it though.

Looking at all the 383 kit offerings out there is bewildering to say the least. I'd like to build decent power; ~ 500hp at the crank at least but I'm as interested in making it bulletproof as gaining more power. I am also concerned about oil pan clearance. My motor is currently bone stock with 235K on the clock.

Any suggestions on a...
stroker kit ?
Heads ?
Cam ?
Caveats ?

thanks
David

Texas Speed, Tick Performance, Brian Tooley, etc etc. there is plenty of oil pan clearance. You will have to have the block clearanced in a few places I do believe, an alignment hone for new main bearings, and the cylinders honed. Might as well add new cam bearings too. Anyone you talk to will be able to point you in the right direction for heads and cams and all that.
