help me beat this dead horse again
am looking for a C5 have been looking for two months done a lot of research watched lots of videos on what to look for and so on
one of the things I see most is make sure it has an AGM battery because we all know what happens when acid gets on the wiring harness and the computer.
that being said, have looked at a dozen C5 s and none hade an AGM battery and most sellers thought I was crazy.
so whats to 411 on this issue ?
my local independent corvette dealer has been in business for decades and the only corvette he has come accross with an AGM is a ZO6 !
CONFUSSED IN OREGON !!!!!
I have owned 2 Corvettes. I have never used an agm battery. Walmart Everstart Maxx is an excellent battery. All I have ever used. AGMs are overrated in my opinion.
Mine had a lead acid battery when I got it and it was leaking like crazy out the back. Seemed to be every time I accelerated hard it spilled out. Replaced it immediately with an Optima.
When I first got my C5 over ten years ago, I just put a regular battery in. Never had any issues. I replaced it last year and decided to go with AGM just as an insurance policy. YMMV.
When I checked mine, one of the previous batteries does appear to have leaked.
The cost of a battery is not a big deal to me, I replaced it with an Optima, problem solved.

The "leaking battery" issue was a thing of the past...I've been using an AC Delco Professional lead-acid battery for years and no leaking issues...like was mentioned the Everstart battery was rated the #1 battery by Consumer Reports so you know it's got to be good !!
So if you are afraid of having acid damage in that area, take a look at it before you buy. You can then get your own AGM battery and not have to worry about it.
The only time I ever saw a battery leak was from a non maintence free battery. One of the down sides to a AGM according to the Forum, is it is very difficult to charge should you forget to turn something off and drain the battery. I have a maintence free battery in mine but thinking of Murphy's Law, I put acid absorption pads underneath the battery. I also visually check the battery when I open the hood for any reason, at least once a week.
So what if it has AGM battery, the car could still have had battery acid leak out before, from a regular battery in the past, I would say pull battery and inspect area below no matter what battery.
