Im going to change the transmission filter and drop the trans pan on my 99 corvette doing routine maintenance just goy the car two weeks ago, What should be in the car dexon 3? or dexron 4? I read you can put dexron VI 6 u guess that is. The bottle i read said full synthetic. So can i add 5 qts when changing the trans filter of dexron vI 6 to whatever is in my 99 corvette already from previous owner or should i stick to dexron 3 and 4. I attached pics Stp brand is more expensive i may just get the walmart brand VI super tech as its cheaper says full synthetuc will that matter if whats already in trans is conventional. Worst it could make is a synthetic blend correct? Would the walmart super tech 6 work just fine with whatever in my 99 corvette just changing the filter and 5 qts it takes when u drop the pan. see pics
Good questions you mean see standard dex 3 they superceeded dex 6 i think which can be mixed with dex three if im not mistaking, Dex 3 isnt on the autozone shelf the multi vehicle ,f type import stuff is. And then the Dex mercon VI dex 6 i think it is,. When looking up the rear end gear oil needed from auutzone computer said dex 3 and dex vI which is dex 6 i believe im guessing they can be mixed together, 5qts come out when i drop the trans pan and change the filter i need to refill it with 5 qts, Not sure whats in there id assume dex 3, Someone let me know if you can indeed mix the new dex VI 6 which dex compatible with. Now walmart sells a 4 gallon jug " automatic transmission fluid" for 13$ " for vehicles that use dex 3 it has n fine print under headline. Would his be the better option? It is for a 99 corvette auto GOT THE FIVE QUARTS NEEDED FOR WHEN YOU CHANGE THE FILTER AND DROP THE TRANSMISSION PAN. Let me know if this will mix withwhat should be dex 3 in there currently.

I'm not sure on the fluids if they can be mixed or not. I do remember there is one that can't be mixed with Dex 3. I would make sure you ave a couple of extra quarts around as this is a messy job. You may want to familiarize with re fill procedure so you don't burn the trans up... https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...illed-and.html
Regarding fluid mixing-- don't. A bit of residue mixed with 5q of fresh fluid won't be a big deal, but try to get as much out as you can. Better yet, flush it properly. Different fluid has different friction properties, and mixing them together can do weird things.

Hey do you know how to flush it properly and the cheapest way. Can you flush it thru one of the trans cooler lines? when u look up dexron 6 says meets expecation of dexron 3 and is compatible or can be used with previous versions. Whats the cheapest way at home to flush all 11 qts? i could do the filter change 3-4 times but corvette is tougher no dipstick have to fill plug on side of pan cycle it thru gear till it suks up both quarts. fill 2 more quarts cycle and and then the last quart. 5 guarts come out when changing filter or pulling pan. ANyone know how to check the fluid level as it doesnt have a dip stick i mean no telling how much is already in there just bought the car 2 weeks ago last fluid to change is transmission. Autozone computer said filter and dexron 3-dexron6 superceds or is compatible with older versions and 5qts it takes when u change the filter or drop the pan
