Default 04Z Windshield Side Reveal Molding Replacement

Hey guys,

My 2004 Z06 has two things right now: a cracked windshield, and cracked windshield side reveal moldings just past the top of the glass. Apparently, this is somewhat common in the FRCs, and can lead to water stains or damage on the headliner if it goes on too long.

So here's my question: will the windshield guy replace these, or do I have to buy them myself and give them to him before he starts the job? Not sure if it's standard to replace these every time.

I'm sure others have been through something similar.

You talking about the rain gutters that run from the bottom of the a-pillar all the way back to the halo?

That is not something a windshield guy will replace and can be done without removing the windshield.

Yep, the rain gutters, they go all the way back to the corner of the window opening for the FRC.

The side moldings do have to come off to replace the windshield. So a glass guy won't replace them?

By the way, here's a pic of where the crack is on the molding. It's on both sides.

Crack in windshield side reveal molding.

They dont say if they replace that piece or just remove it. I cant tell in their finished pics if the piece is still cracked where it shows in some of the earlier pictures.

In their pictures its either already broken about where yours(and mine on my car) is or if they cut it to get the rest of the trim out(not realizing it will leak like a sieve after that)...

Anyway, I wouldnt expect a windshield place to have or include those pieces because honestly they are getting VERY hard to come by. Ive got a brand new passenger side and need to find a drivers side also to fix my car.

I see. If you can find them, they're going for around 280 bucks just for ONE right now, right? Seems to me they're out of stock on a lot of GM parts sites, with only 1 or 2 that actually claim to have it. Tells me the supply is well on its way to drying up.

I wouldn't even be opposed to repairing the existing trim pieces if it didn't look bad and actually kept the water out. I'd need to have the broken pieces in hand to understand the feasibility of that, however.

When replacing those pieces make sure you keep the two blowout clips that are attached to them. The new trim pieces don't have them. How do I know? My 03Z had the windshield replaced back in 2008 including replacing the old trim pieces which weren't cracked. The shop threw out the old parts and didn't keep the window blowout clips which did cause issues with the top of the windows popping loose from the weather strip at high speed.

So your glass guy DID in fact replace the trim pieces? This is exactly what I'm trying to find out here, because I would think they'd be able to do this as long as they could acquire the new trim piece. I'm sure they'd be glad to charge for the part and labor as well if possible.

Thanks for the tip, I'll keep an eye out for that. I also hear some air rushing when I go fast (on a closed course obviously), but it seems to be from the rear of the window, on the vertical edge of the glass. I'll have to look for tips on how to seal that a little better if possible.

I discovered my 2003 Z06 has a crack on the same area of the reveal on the driver side and I can't find a replacement and at some point every C5 FRC and Z06 reveal will be cracked, then there won't even be used ones on the market. So you'd think someone would make an aftermarket part of this or at least a repair kit to fill in the crack so it matches and won't leak.
