Default Need Engine Rebuilt

I want to have my 1999 C-5 rebuilt with some modifications. I live about 45 minutes north of Tampa. Looking for a machine engine shop that specializes in LS1 and preferably can tune the car as well. Any recommendations? Thank You

Default Engine rebuild?

Maybe you could talk to Geoff Skorupa at Next Level Performance in Altamonte Springs (north Orlando).
Another vette specialty shop in same general area sort of told me they have a bit more work than they need.

Hi NewVette, when you do this, take a hard look at a rebuild vs dropping in an LS3 instead. You might be surprised to find the prices are not too far away from each other. Just a thought. I've been shocked at how close these prices are now. My next motor will be an LS3 in there. Especially if considering adding performance. I mean an LS3 in stock form is already 80 horsepower higher than the LS1, and that's just the beginning. Add a cam and pick up another 50-75.

Isn't an LS3 fully installed and all the necessary stuff going to be like $12k? Askin' for a friend.

No. You can get the motor for around $7,000, give or take. It WILL be that much if you have everything done at the Stealer, so you can get a "warranty". It's been my experience that warranty people are a lot like car salesmen. They'll tell you everything you want to hear, until you need that warranty. Then, they'll find every reason you've ever heard of to weasel their way out of covering it. If it was me, I'd buy the LS3, transfer all your accessory drive stuff over, and get a tune for the bigger motor. Your stock MAF is too small, as is the throttle body. You could probably get away with the 85mm MAF from the C5 Z06, and pick up a new 90mm LS3 TB, or a good used one. This way you could keep your stock motor sealed up, and pick up close to 100 factory reliable horsepower.

Based on a thread from a year or two ago a guy who did it himself spent around $10k. Crate engine cost him about $8k. And it took him a good long time.
not sure we would be doing the OP any favors based on his original post

Agreed. Plus you could go fully forged on the LS1 build with ported heads and big cam that revs to 7200rpms that will be more reliable and fun to drive for less than what the LS3 will cost. Then when you decide to go FI your LS1 already has forged internals.
