I have a family friend of mine who replaced the battery on his 1998 C5 Corvette and after he did that the car wouldnt crank but he kept getting a security light and it beeps at him. I did some research and found out it could be the resistace in the key, can anyone tell me if that information is correct?

Have him disconnect the negative battery cable for about 5 minutes or so, if that doesn't help spray some electronic contact cleaner on the resistor pellet on the key and insert and pull the key several times.

this happened to me. I followed the troubleshooting flow with my multimeter in the fuse box under the passenger footwell. I believed it was the ignition, so I pulled that and tested it with the multimeter. To my surprise, it tested good. I moved on to thinking it was the starter. I used a little jumper wire to jump the purple and red wires on the theft deterrent relay and the starter turned over for the first time in weeks. Just out of curiosity, I tried a keyed start and it fired right up. Part of me still thinks the starter is going bad. I have another one sitting on my shelves now, ready to throw in. But I haven't changed it out because the car has started perfectly since this experience^. I guess what I'm saying is: try jumping the starter with the red and purple wires on top of the theft detterent relay in the passenger footwell and see what happens.
Of course it will crank over if you jumper it, the OP stated that the Security light was on, it should be off if the VATS is satisfied, if it is.not the BCM will not provide a ground to the TDR coil.
I hear you. You were very helpful when I was trying to get mine going, Mmartinez. Thank you again, btw. I’m just saying what I experienced was strange and it doesn’t take much time or effort to do the thing that ultimately got mine going again. You know?
Yes, I know, jumpering the TDR is a great way to help determine what is causing a no crank condition, is it a control, interlock, or even problems with loose battery connections and of course a failing starter or starter solenoid.
