For us in the U.S. it is purely looks. When no bulbs are illuminuted, clear will look clear and amber will look amber. When illuminated either should look amber as you must use an amber bulb in the lower section. Many with white or silver vettes prefer the clear lenses.

Just a personal preference...you decide.

I really like the both, but for some strange reason I don't like lights that "change color" i.e. clear turns amber. They look great on your car, and who knows, some day I might switch! :cheers:
