I've got a weird leak on my targa seal. It's not coming though where any of the seals meet the pillars, or where the glass meets the seal. It's dripping out of the little holes that go along the bottom of the seal. I can't figure out how water would even get in there. Any ideas?
I'm never sure what goes in each of these sections. I thought tech was for engine stuff, haha.
Anyway, I had the top off today to poke around at it, and I decided I'd plug up all the holes and blow into one to figure out where water was getting in by seeing where the air would come out. I found this it was coming out on the outside edge towards the front of the seal where it's supposed to snap into the metal frame. I saw 2 issues in this spot. 1, there are some small cracks in this spot, and 2, the rubber has pulled out of the track, and it refuses to go back in. I imagine I'm going to need replacement seals.
I just had a chunk of the seal break off and fall onto my seat. Did some searching here and at various parts houses and found that both Mid American Motors and Vetnutts have seals available, GM of course has discontinued them. I ordered from Vetnutts.
Try to find used OEM ones if you can or the high quality after market. Anything thats 100.00 to 200.00 new is junk. I learned my lesson the hard way with my other cars. I actually ended up buying a used targa top that someone had stored in his house because the top was damaged but the weatherstrip was like new after 3 aftermarket ones failed.
