Default GM CNC Ported Heads. Your comments Please

I think I finally have made a decision on GM LS6 Ported Heads for my 2000. I like the price quote I recieved. $985.00. Any one want to shoot me a better price?

Some specs:
LS6
They are ground down to give 11 to 1 compression.
CNC Ported
.550 lift
Light Weight Valves & Upgraded Springs

I decided Im not racing every weekend (Just out to have fun & show off) so $162500.00 per Head and Stanless Steel Valves, Titanium Retainers, and Bronze Guides is over kill for my application. I dont know what Cam I should use yet. But I will take your advice.

The GM heads are done by Lingenfelter, and are very nice. Where have you found them in stock, as I have a fellow racer who can't find any.

Be careful of 11.1 CR. It's a bit high for me.

I assume the $985 is with the core exchange? I thought just the bare z06 heads were in the $1500 range.

I think the $985 quote is for one head only. You will need two heads so the total will be $1970 plus shipping.
Great deal none the less! Only thing is they are said to be milled .060 already, do your compression ratio may be higher than you want for the street.
These heads were designed for a certain class racing application. They could use race gas and high compression is no problem then.

985 per head might be for the porting if you supply the cores. I would call Total Engine Airflow in Ky and have them port you a set of 5.3 truck heads. You'll probably spend 1500-1700 on a set of heads that will make 430+RWHP easy. $300 core

Get 'em at SDPC (WWW.sdpc2000.com) if they're still available. I ordered mine over 1 month ago- still not in. They are complete heads $985 each. Milled .055" with 60 cc combustion chambers.J-Rod has a great thread on them posted in ppast couple of months http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=432997

yes, that is correct pricing EACH for a complete head. You keep your stock heads. It is a very good deal for a set of CNC heads, just make sure you get the correct pushrods/adjustable rocker etc, and run good fuel etc. I run 30 degrees of timing in my race car with these heads and the GM 'Gib' cam, but we run 100 octane fuel. YOu also have to modify your intake manifold to fit these heads. A simple mod, butmust be done.

David, what modifications have to be done to the intake manifold? Also, if you don't mind me asking what kind of HP are you making with the World Cup Cam 'Gib' cam and the CNC ported heads...

I have read a 28hp increase at the wheel with no other mod. (z06 car)
flow #'s:
I E
.200 142 104
.300 210 150
.400 254 185
.500 290 203
.550 304 210
.600 286 212

approx. 60cc chamber, 11-1 cr.
I was looking at this cr as to high for street use. If you plan on traveling with your car octane ratings could be a problem. Tuning out timing dosen,t sound like a good soution to compensate. I will be passing on them. I am considering new stock z06 heads
($732 ea.), replace the springs, some minor cleanup work and a good street cam 271-277 Adv. Dur. | 218-224 Dur.@.050 | .563-.568 Lift | 114 LSA. This way no resurfacing is required.

Hey Dave - what must one do for the intake to match up properly? Great point you bring up..

There are two brass inserts on the intake. One at passenger side front and one at drivers side rear, they must beremoved and machined .050. This will allow the intake to seal the gasket. Pushrod length is also an issue. 7.350 to 7.200

Hi guys -
let me clear up a few things on the GMPP SCCA LS6 heads, they do sell for $985.00 per head, which is $1970.00 a pair, with NO core charge. That gives you a pair of new LS6 castings, CNC ported and fully assembled by Lingenfelter, ready to bolt on for $1970.00

They do require shorter pushrods, wich are also available through SDPC, due to the decks being milled for higher compression. The compression should come out to right around 11.0:1 on a stock bottom end. I wouldn't be concerned about compression being too high for the street, and I haven't ever heard of anyone needing to run race gas due to installing these heads.

The heads are available through Scoggin-Dickey, here is a link:
http://www.sdpc2000.com

They have been back - ordered for the last month or so, which was totally our fault, but they are in route to SDPC now, so anyone that has heads on order, call them and they can give you a delivery date. If anybody needs to order some, just call any of the guys at Scoggin-Dickey and they can get heads to you right away.

The heads are rated to 550" lift, but the Gib cam is actually 575" lift, and I run it to 7500rpm with no valve float. We make around 460 at the rear wheels, but that is through long tube headers and no cats or mufflers.

Ditto on the brass alignment pins on the intake, but you don't have to do any further clearancing. The ports line up fine, it is just the brass "nubs" that cause the problem.
