I have a similar problem. When I fill up the tank, my needle pins to "empty". After I burn off about 5 or 6 gallons, the gauge starts working again. No amount of additives will help with my problem, as I have replaced the fuel pump three times with brand new (extremely expensive) fuel pumps. All came with the new sending unit/float included. After the third unit, it was obvious that neither the pump, or the sending unit was the culprit. Still trying to diagnose the problem.
hi i just got my 1999 c5 corvette, like two months ago i bought the car while the "check gauge" light being on, thinking it was a easy fix. however i realized i was mistaken. I'm hoping you can help me with this situation should i replace both of my fuel pump(if so where can i buy them i checked the GM store they no longer sell it and i check race tronic they no longer sell it as well), or should i burn some of the gas in my car to it being almost empty and putting in some techron hoping my gas needle goes back up. i hope u can reach back to me on this
hey guys tomorrow im going to be using techron on my car to hopefully fix my gas gauge situation, any recommendation on how to properly use it on my car (my car is a 1999 corvette)

With a nearly empty tank, put the Techron in and then the gas. You may need to use the Techron for three-four tanks and then every few after that. Even with the Techron it may still occasionally occur.
Patience is key! It took me over 1,200 miles, and at least 4 or 5 bottles of Techron before mine worked right. No guarantee this will work for you, but I think it works for the majority of us.....
I lost all patience. Over 3,000 miles and 12 bottles of Techron. Obviously Techron is not the solution. I think it is foolish to believe Techron would really work. Anything that needs to be cleaned has to be scrubbed. Pouring a solvent on something doesn't cleaned it. You have to scrub it. The Techron actually working is just in everybody's mind.
It has not worked for me yet eather after several bottles over the last 2 years, so I just set the trip odometer and fill up every 300 miles. Very annoying!

A sample size of one doesn't really support such a claim. I get it, you're just frustrated that you can't resolve this problem, or even minimize it as many of us have been able to do with the Techron treatment. For many (most?) of us, the Techron treatment treats the problem so that it never occurs or occurs less often. For some, such as winnie, even Techron doesn't help and the only other solution is the expensive replacement of the mechanism/sending unit (and, even then, it may happen again after a while).
Techron does appear to minimize how often it happens with my '99 convertible. Before starting Techron treatments, it would happen every time the particular factors were present - between 3/8 and 5/8 a tank, driving for about one hour. If I stop and turn the car off, it is back to normal when I restart but would happen again if it had 3/8-5/8 tank and driving for an hour. If I kept driving, it would flip from E to 3/8 once the tank got to 3/8. If I use Techron regularly - every third or fourth tankfuls - it happens far less frequently. On the other hand, it is hard to evaluate as those conditions don't happen all that often, especially with driving the car less over the past few years (the pandemic, this is now not my only fun car so I have to spread the miles out over the Corvette and the BMWs.
Try double bottle at just over 1/2 tank to maximize both sensors tanks sides cleaning - seemed to work better on mine - I just tried this last few weeks.

Yes, the Techron has to be added when tank is close to empty to assure that it mixes with all of the gas, not just what is in the first tank.

yes but did the 2 bottle treatment work on half a tank mine has never went to full only 3/4 and have been using it for 2 years with no luck.

I’ve been battling the 7/8s full for a few years and the 1/2 tank double dose got me to full after last fillup so much more improvement will see if lasts again at next fillup. I let it sit in tank all week till I got to 1/4 then filled up.
Let me know if I does indeed work with a 2 bottle treatment, I’m willing to try but didn’t know if you could OD the fuel and hurt the car with to much. Thanks
No - that’s what is recommended on bottle at 1/4 for typical cars - to get both sensors need near 1/2 tank to slosh around at max concentration. 🤷🏻♂️
That would be if you are not then filling with gas. What I have found works best on my car is to get the tank down to at or below 1/4 tank, add a 20 oz bottle of Techron, and then fill up with gas.

Mine has been doing this off and on recently and finally quit. I am on my second tank of Techron on an empy tank so I am hoping this cures it. I replaced the Left tank pump/pickup/sending unit assembly last May with a brand new AC Delco Unit. I then replaced the right unit with a low mileage OEM part. It worked fine for a year and now its doing it again. Hitting the reset button gives me a half tank reading on a full tank while the car isn't running, then goes to zero once I start it.
My codes are:
PO461 Fuel Level Sensor 1 Circuit Perfomrance
PO463 Fuel Level Sensor 1 Current High Voltage
Is sensor 1 the main pump or the jet pump?
sensor 1 is driver side. Both tanks have a jet pump... as well as electric pump on driver side
