I accidently got out of my 2003 corvette while it was stopped but in drive. My wife acted quickly and shoved the shifter into park. Now it won't start in either park or neutral. We are miles from home and can't locate a shop that can do the repair for less than 2 weeks. Could there be an electronic control that would blow a fuse or something or is it worse. Does anyone know what it could be?
As far as I understand, you have Auto transmission.
I'd suggest to check the transmission shifter cable. It can be that from rapid stop bushings were damaged and trans is still in Drive...
Easy to check - go underneath a vehicle from the back and ensure that lever on transmission is in Park (if not - move it to park manually).
Thanks. I will have it checked. The shifter seems very loose to me as if it is disconnected somewhere. One person suggested that perhaps a fuse is blown. Do you know if there is any electronic control that would blow a fuse to prevent trans damage? If shifter cable is broken, is this a common part as in easy to get?
If the shifter is loose as you describe, I suspect that you did in fact break the cable. They're normally not all that hard to come by. Since it's clear that you won't be doing the work yourself, I would expect that you'll pay between $250.00 and $350.00 to get it fixed. Sorry to hear about your troubles. I hope you can get it resolved quickly.

The odds of u breaking the trans is u winning the lottery.
Since you are away from home I’d do a last ditch effort try to run thru all the gear selections and see if car will start. Just something I would try before trying to find a shop, then take care of properly at home. If starts then you need to find the proper selection to get in drive obviously….and get the heck outta dodge!
