Gen 4 rods in LS1 ???
So I'm rebuilding my 99 LS1 so far I'm planning on using Wiseco forged pistons, stock LS1 crank , and considering upgrading to Gen 4 rods out of a 6.2. Question is, is that possible or a good idea? Later on plans for the engine will be adding a supercharger but I'd like to have this bottom end ready for that while I'm rebuilding. Hope that makes sense and TIA for any helpful input.
My LS machinist tells me it’s a big effort to balance. But it can be done.
Scat makes a nice budget 4340 I beam rod for less than $400.
I wanted to do exactly what you mentioned, but the 6.2 rods I got were all out of round on the big end.
So I bought the Scats. Same overall weight as the Gen 3 rods, so balance was easy.
I’m assembling now.

Just make sure they match your pistons for pins, rod length etc.
I had purchased a Mahle power pack piston kit assuming I’d be using those Gen 4 rods that turned out to be bad, so I needed to choose the right Scat set.
There are more than a few variations.
We did have to hone the small end to fit the pins.
Have fun!
