Do different size wheels with the same size tires make a difference?
I've been wondering if there is a performance difference for using a wheel of a certain size given the size of the tire.
For example: 275/40-17 tires mounted on 17x9 wheels verses the same size tires mounted on 17x9.5 wheels.
Any difference? Pros? Cons?

It will change the handling, but not necessarily for the better. Generally speaking, the wider wheel will reduce sidewall flex, resulting in a harsher ride and quicker transitions. This may also cause a loss of traction on rougher surfaces. Minor changes like this can have big consequences, not all of which are good.

There has been a lot of topics on this in the past, some for, some against. Not sure myself, but when I spring for new wheels, I plan to go wider and spring for wider tires to best match the wheels.
