Default Mod Pricing Questions...???

Hello,

Currently I am Vette-less, but plan to get back into a Vette in the near future. Probably right around the time the C6 will replace the C5.

I have done some digging and have found that prices for modifications for C4's are less than for C5's.

While I have not been into Vettes for long enough to remember when the C5 was not around, I know some/many of you have.

C5 mod pricing has become more and more competative and prices have come down, and will probably go down more until the C5 is replaced.

So now my question ... when the C5's first came out, in 1997, how were modifications for it priced relative to C4's ... did they cost more? less? equal?

I ask this because I wonder if the C5's transition into the C6 will cause a nice drop in C5 mod prices ... This is all purely hypothetical ... and just for my personal education ... since I am fairly new to Vette's in general ...

It's tough to answer your question because a lot of it depends on the economy and supply/demand. However, there is a fixed cost needed to manufacture a modification, and then there is a variable cost associated with marketing, etc. per unit. Whether the fixed cost is lower for C4's, I don't know, but generally when there are more units produced, the cost will come down for any given product. But the question is whether the basic cost, due to the type of product, is more costly.

The simple answer is that as the C4 or C5 gets older, the costs should generally decline some due to the numbers produced (supply) and the numbers bought (demand). However, as the cars get older, the sheer fact of having to carry parts that are no longer selling could actually increase the cost of the part.

The C5 has been a popular model so it will be around for awhile. I wouldn't worry about the cost of peanuts when you are driving a world-class sports car.

Like anything competition rules and sets the price. As far as motors go you get more HP for your dollar now. H/C car with 400 RWHP in beginning but now few dollars more and you get 450. When one company made a part in the beginning they named their price but didn't sell as many because demand wasn't there. I'd say thing get cheaper. Some amount of mods & money make the car excel wonderfully.
