Default Headlight will not light

The driver's side headlight on my 02 C5 will not light up. The passenger side light shines. I've replace both bulbs, checked and cleaned both #10 & #12 fuses (engine compartment) and I cleaned the gray electrical connection going to the headlight motor. Also, the (frame) ground directly behind the headlight has been cleaned. I've wiggled the wires leading to the headlight and still no illumination.

Do BOTH high and low beams not work ??…the ground is shared between both…if both not working usually a ground issue…do you have a 12 volt test light or a DVOM and know how to use them ??…you have to check the wiring !!

Thank you for the wiring diagram. As stated, " The passenger side light shines," and grounds have been checked.

Try jiggling the connector wires at the "gray electrical connection". I had a problem with my passenger light going up. A new motor was installed last year. I jiggled the connecting wires and the motor went up. Like you, I cleaned the connections but also made sure the connectors fit tightly together. No further problems for 2 months.

I'm getting about 11.8 volts at the wide gray connector for both the headlight motor and headlight and connections were cleaned.

MOST headlight issues are ground related !!…if you remove the bulb connector (high and low beam) and read across the 2 wires what voltage are you reading ??

I will get the high and low beam reading in a few minutes. Right now at the large gray connector the only wire not showing at least 11.79 volts is the yellow wire. The yellow wire is showing zero.

How is voltmeter connected ??…red voltmeter lead to yellow terminal and black lead to a good ground ??..does the left high beam work ??

If that is the case your feed wire from the fuse 10 (if it’s good) to the low beam connector is bad…you have an open in the circuit !!..what I would also do is remove the fuse and turn the headlights on and see if you have 12 volts to one of the fuse 10 terminals at the fusebox !!..just want to be sure this little section of wiring is OK !!

Disconnected both high and low bean wires going into the headlight bulbs. Zero voltage on both.
Pulled #10 fuse. The fuse has two prongs that plug into the fuse box. On one of those pin receptacles got a reading of 11.69 volts. On the other receptacle got a reading of Zero.

YES !!…you will have only 12 volts on one of those terminals…power comes from that fusebox terminal through the fuse and then goes to the low beam yellow wire connector you unplugged…like I said in that case you have a broken wire between the fuse box terminal where there was 0 volts and the connector…understand ??..and you sure the fuse is good ??…now I thought you had voltage on the yellow wire at the connector and now you don’t have anything on the low or high beam ??…the headlight switch must be on HIGH to get power to the high beam bulb…I’m getting really confused now…you did reinstall that fuse ??…also the high beam goes through fuse 12 with the headlight switch on HIGH…pull fuse 12 and with headlight switch on see if you have power to one of the fuse 12 terminals.

Thank you so much for your help in tracing down the wires. I did exactly what you said. I found two broken wires, yellow n green, patched those and now there is light at both headlamps!
