Hello everyone and can I do this? I managed to remove the electrical connection and removed the large plastic tube held on by the 2 clamps. The MAF is held on by another clamp which l loosened and gave it some tugs. The housing wont give so can l just spray cleaner on one side and hope for the best? The inside didn't look dirty at all so should l leave it alone? In the video it looked like a simple job but the housing isn't cooperating. Thank you.
Are you having some problem or just cleaning it as a preventative measure ? I wouldn't spray MAF cleaner on it while its still attached to the throttle body air dam. I yanked my MAF off a few months ago, when my car was running weird. I realized one of the clamps on the MAF was a non-standard design, as opposed to a normal worm gear. Once I got it off, it wouldn't go back on correctly. So I just had to buy a generic clamp to reattach it, which worked fine.
As long as your car is running okay, I would just leave it alone.
I wanted to do this as maintenance. I got the air dam off but the MAF wouldn't come off. I was going to remove the air filter and spray in that direction and let it dry. Thank you for your reply.
My MAF was difficult to get off as well, so don't think you have an uncommon situation. I was expecting it to come off easily, but likely due to years of it being in place without having been removed the plastics may have fused a bit.
Make sure the large clamps are wide open and then rotate back and forth several times (along the lines of from 3-12 o'clock, and back again from 12- 3 o'clock) - it should rotate- then using that same back and forth rotation add a pulling motion as you rotate and you should be able to get it apart. That's what worked for me. I think it is best to clean the MAF spraying both sides. And of course you should use a product specifically designed to clean the MAF as it is a delicate electronic component. Good luck.
