Anyone else have a weird gas gauge? I've seen mine functions about like it should but the other day i had just over a 1/4 tank about 150 mile range where i had driven 60 miles maybe and had 1/8 of a tank left but before stopping home i seen the gauge went back up to a 1/4. Just today i went up there with 130 mile range or 1/4 on the gauge and put 10$ or 3.xx gallons of supreme. Directly after i noticed my gauge didnt move one bit. I then checked to see if the pump did actually pump gas by reinserting the card and spraying 17 cents so im hoping it did as id hate to lose 10$. I then went for an errand at the store next door and back to the same gas station to try a different pump and put 7$ or 2 gallons and the gauge went up this time to almost half a tank or 180 mile range. Anyone else have issues like this and is there a low fuel light on these cars?
May i ask if theres any better products or is this techron the best of the product for this type of job? I did run the one small bottle of lucas upper cylinder or fuel treatment i think it was a few months ago as a maintenance.
There may possibly be a better product out there, but if so, I’m unaware.
There are literally hundreds of threads here over the years on this very issue, and Techron is the only one I’ve seen recommended.

Great ill try it. Advance has the 20 oz reg 15.99 for 7.99$ when you order thru website. I placed an order for the 20 oz totaling 8.65$ ready in 30 minutes for pick-up about 5 minutes up the road. When i called he told me it was buy one full price get one free but i went ahead with the single bottle sale price as advertised on Advances website.
Thank you, I need to stock up. I always wait until they are on sale to buy it, and I run 2 bottles thru every year as preventative maintenance. I’ve never had the issue so far.
Techron is definitely the way to go. I had the drop to empty issue and Techron cleared it up, ran a bottle in every tank for about 4 tanks and it finally cleared it up, no issues anymore.

The DIC will display a message when the fuel level gets low. Also, the Check Gauges light will illuminate. Techron added to the fuel tank can help get the gauge working righta again - no promises, but is has worked for many owners.
Thanks ill give this a try 20 oz should be fine on half a tank thats in it? The instructions say fill the entire contents to a nearly EMPTY TANK then TO REFUEL WITH UP TO 20 GALLONS. Is it going to hurt to add it to 5 gallons that are in the car or does it need to be poured into the botton of a nearly empty tank? A friend has a 99 ls1 camaro that recently started doing the half full/ empty gauge reading. Any idea when it displays low fuel about how much gas is left in terms of gallons?

Don't over-think it. Run your tank as reasonably low as you are comfortable with. Whether that's sitting on E or shows 1/4 tank, just run it reasonably low. Slap in the techron concentrate and then top up with gas, run _that_ tank as low as you're comfortable with, fill up again and drive. If you're lucky your gauges start working. Common issue, something sticks, techron tends to work.
I have put what seems like gallons of TECHRON in and still have the gauge problem. When I fill up, the gauge will swing to full then back to empty casing the notifications opined by Vetteman Jack. Then after a few miles, hitting some imperfections in the road, making right and left turns, turning the car on and off, the gauge will start to act normal. I have learned to put up with this issue for the past year. Good luck fixing yours with TECHRON.
Techron worked for me. Took at least 4 bottles, 4 fill ups, and over 1,200 miles, but gauge now works fine. Also, Shell Nitro Premium has Techron in it. It must, because when I run nothing but Shell, I have no issues at all. Best of luck.......
So there's two tanks are they tied into each other on the bottom? I usually only put 20$ in gas or run half a tank. Will the gas get old on one side?
It pumps the gas from the passenger side to the driver side tank continuously.
There is a crossover on top from one tank to the other. When you fill up, the drivers side fills first, then over flows to the passenger side tank. I keep mine full most of the time. That may be a contributing factor to your issue.

I believe you're right, Larry, as far as the OP not keeping enough fuel in the tank(s). IIRC, I once read some posts about this very problem. Seems that the guys posting said you should try to keep a minimum of 1/2 tank of fuel in the car, if possible. Something to do with keeping the sending units submerged in fuel, rather than exposed to the air. I don't know if they knew this helped for sure, or not. But I have tried to do this in my car since reading this info, and it seems to work for me.....
Try running a bottle or two of Techron fuel system cleaner thru. Most of the time that will clear up the issue.
Agree. My gas gauge dropped from 3/4 to zero in 1 second while on the freeway. I pulled over, stopped and restarted and it went back up again. Half hour later same thing except this time the gas gauge didn't reset. I drove for an hour and then filled and then it showed full again.
Techron did the trick for me.
I bought a 6 pack of bottles from amazon and on every one of the next 6 fills I put the Techron in the gas tank before filling, and then filled. Hasn't had a problem since. So much on the wen and the faulty needles in the gas tank. They get gunked up. The Techron cleans them. Good luck!
