Turn signals go out from time to time, but by repeatedly hitting the emergency flashers, they start working again. I read somewhere there is a fix by installing some sort of pigtail in the wiring behind the emergency flasher button...any ideas for a fix?

When I was having that issue I just replaced the flasher…fixed !!
As noted, proper repair requires a new flasher - part of the center dash hazard switch and flasher. To do the job right you have to pull the dash pad and ducting apart. Bit of a pain in the ***, to say the least.
A hyper flash kit bypasses the hazard flasher, and installs behind the knee panel.

So, a few options, as the hazard switch is what controls the turn signal functionality:
- Pop the button off the hazard switch, and drill a small hole the diameter of an electronics cleaner tube, spray into the hole and then press the hazard switch repeatedly to clean the terminals. There is another thread on this forum if you search, with pictures on how to do this.
- Get a new hazard switch. But you have to get the one that is made in a specific country (Poland I think), otherwise the new one will fail just the same due to a design defect in the switch. There's another thread on this if you search.
- Get an aftermarket "hyperflash harness" which bypasses the hazard switch and controls the turn signal functionality itself. If you plan to do any LED itnerior/exterior light upgrades on the car, a good idea to get this anyway to eliminate hyperflashing of the turn signals.
Check post No. 17 in the thread below. I drilled my switch as shown, sprayed BreakFree in the hole, activated the hazard switch a number of times--- and eliminated the turn signal stoppage-- five years ago.
