Default Headlight gear replacement

I am in the middle of replacing the gear in my headlight motor. It’s a late 2000 C5 according to what I have researched as the headlight motor that is installed has a glued casing as opposed to the bolted casing installed in the earlier C5’s. All of the online tutorials have indicated that there should be a spacer and some bushings that go around the shaft inside the motor. My motor doesn’t have these. It was operating fine until the plastic gear started to wear and then you would hear some grinding noise from the gear after closing the headlights. The shaft fits pretty securely in the old and new gears so there’s no difference in fit.

My plan is to put it back the same way I found it but I was curious if anyone else had found the spacer and bushings missing like I did and if so what their outcome was.

Thanks

I just replaced the entire motor since they are cheap. Good luck. I hope you got one of the kits that comes with a bracket to hold the housing together.

I have seen several write-ups revealing some motors with a spacer(s) and some without. Instructions say leave them like you find them.

I finished the removal on Tuesday and pried open the casing and cleaned it up inside. I had removed the glue remnants, lubed the gear parts and glued the two halves back together. I then clamped it down for 24 hours and installed it back today. All is well and no more noise!! 😎😎
