So it’s about that time unfortunately at 45k miles 🙃 I’m needing to replace my harmonic balancer but not sure which one to go with. Aiming towards a aftermarket/upgraded version. Any suggestions?
Been covered a whole lot, but go with a stock style PowerBond PB1117N or slightly better (and more expensive) PB1117SS. Get an ARP crank bolt too while you're at it.
I went with the ATI and ARP bolt as well. No more rubber to go bad. I had the oil seal behind it replaced at the same time. It'll save labor cost down the road. My '03 Z only had 11k on it when I got it last year and the balancer already had a slight wobble. The rubber breaks down over time, regardless of miles.

That 1k plus quote is enough incentive for me to start ripping it apart myself..it’s not all that hard … With the correct tools ..get a crows foot wrench recommend for the power steering lines

I went with an ASP 25% underdrive balancer, 11 years ago. No issues, although the 25% UD isn't for everyone, especially in the SW, and Southern states. But I'm in Michigan, and in Florida during Winter. Still, I've rarely gone over 205°, even on 90°+ days. If you're insistent on 25% UD, I'd definitely go with a 160° stat, and an aftermarket radiator, like DeWitts or BeCool, or???? Hope this helps......
It is a fair amount of labor hours, but $5k is really taking the **** if a serious quote! I think that's the price you get when they really don't want the job and don't want to learn how to do the job and don't want to deal with a corvette. So, probably not a serious quote.
$1k is probably about right, given the labor involved, if you live in a higher cost-of-living area.
OP: I would recommend you look into "pinning the crank" as well. I would not recommend an under-drive pulley; I think the power gained is relatively small, and not worth doing. That's my 2c. Other than that, most recommend the same ATI part and ARP stud.
Basically they tried telling me it was a 30 hour job & that the engine had to come out, I had a bit of a rage about it here on the forums a few months ago.
