I recently installed some LED bulbs inside/outside on my 2000 Convertible with no issues EXCEPT the under-hood light..
When I replace the WORKING halogen the LED bulb that came with the kit shines bright for only about 5 minutes then goes completely DIM…closing and reopening the hood does nothing and the only way for it to shine bright again is reinstalling the halogen and the 5 minute etc cycle begins again..
I also tried a different “Twisted Loop” LED and it definitely is a little brighter than the one I received with the kit unfortunately it does the exact same thing..
I understand there is an issue with some LED’s and the BCM not seeing enough resistance I also tried a resistor on the bulb and that just makes it WORSE instead of DIM it goes BLACK after 5 minutes..
So what do you guys think?
Is there an issue with my car specifically?
Are the LED bulbs I’m using the issue as others obviously have used under-hood LEDS with no issues?
Any help appreciated thanks…
LED Bulb that came with kit(Left) Bulb from Amazon(Right)
There is a timer and mercury switch for the under hood light to make sure that the OEM lights don't drain the battery. LEDs don't draw enough current to make the switch operate correctly.

Yes I found this out obviously the hard way I guess what I’m asking is how can sellers sell these bulbs if they don’t work properly? And apparently there are some that DO work properly so should I try another another bulb if so which one? My car does have an aftermarket hood I bought it with and I wasn’t sure if that had anything to do with it but I guess not…

I returned the loop one I got from Amazon the other one I’m considering trying is sold by corvettemods and its “Plug and Play!” 77 sold on eBay alone so how can 77 of these bulbs have been sold if they dont work properly???
Or maybe the ones they’re selling have the proper resistance and don't have the issue?
The under hood LED light doesn't pull enough current to keep the electric system from going into sleep mode. You will need to open a door, etc to wake it up.
