Default Clutch Noise?

Hi all,

I picked up a 2002 6 speed this summer. It is bone stock as far as I know. It runs great, and it drives wonderfully. I was backing into the garage tonight and had the radio off. I noticed that I heard what sounded like a squeaky hamster wheel. I took put it in neutral and took my foot off the clutch to sit still. The sound went away. I pressed the clutch to the floor, and the hamster wheel squeal / squeaking started up again. Foot off - gone. Foot to the floor - squeak. It wasn't terribly loud, and it didn't sound like grinding. My first thought was a worn throwout bearing. The car is flirting with 80k miles. I hope the previous owner didn't sit at red lights waiting in gear. Is this something common with the car, or is this something I am going to need to need to work on short term? Thanks in advance for responses.

Here is how my old release bearing looked like at 53k miles. Had no strange sounds while driving though.

If yours is noisy, then I think it is almost dead.

From my understanding has nothing to do with drivetrain. when u press clutch down it releases all drivetrain notnining movers so that will rule out all component clutch back. Correct me if im wrong.

Depends two times i had the stock clutch and a spec 2+ throw a spring that wedge in between pressure plate and clutch but maybe not your problem. Not sure only problem it caused was the clutch wouldnt disengage probably a different issue here though. Helgas probably right if clutch disengages or still functions. Think it rode in the center flywheel section but maybe wrong.

That doesn't sound like my sound. Mine is a high pitched squeak, not a low tone grind.

Everything works properly. Clutch works as intended.

Now imagine this low tone grind at 700 rpm My bet - the bearing is shot.
With clutch pedal at the floor the only loaded rotating parts are the release bearing and pressure plate. Clutch disk and torque tube are not moving. I don't see any way pressure plate can produce such sounds, so...
And yeah, it may last for some time, but you never know when it'll break.

Yea that was my gut feeling. Guess I’ll keep an ear on it for now.
