Received my shipment today. The instructions read as follows:
"Slip the stitched end of the sock over the boot and wire. Then push the ring end of the sock, holding the boot underneath, onto the plug".
Well, all 8 socks in my package have the same identical appearance on both ends. There's no distinction to differentiate between the "stitched" end and the "ring" end. Am I not understanding the instructions?
RT,
My Taylor boot protectors have one end that is constricted to fit tightly over the end of the boot. I put the protectors on the ThunderVolts before installing.

Alan,
Apparently the socks pictured on the package label is not what's inside the package itself. I've enclosed a photo of the label (showing what looks like your products), and another photo of the actual sock. Guess I'll have to call MidAmerica for a RMA #. Sigh! What crappy attention from the shipper eh? :mad
They sent you the wrong product - you want what's pictured on the label. The tapered end goes towards the spark plugs. I was able to use the metal sleeve also.
My Taylor Fire Sleeves (1200 deg. F) look like the pic on your box, RT. The ring ends fit snugly over the boot. Got mine from Thunderracing.com.
My CoolSox look exactly like the ones that you received from Mid America. I put mine on yesterday and they work perfectly with my stock wires including the metal sleeve. If you look at the KoolMat website http://www.koolmat.com/corvette.shtml you'll see that you have the LS1 CoolSox which look different from some of the other CoolSox that are available.
My KoolSox from Mallett had stiched ends at both ends and worked just fine. Remember they still cann't touch the headers no matter what. If they do the heat will be transfered to your plug wire and it will burn.

Hey Rapid - I received the Kool Socks just like yours. I went out and bought the Taylor's. On another note, did you notice a big increase in footwell heat inside the cabin due to the FLP's ? Merry Xmas!
Hey Merry Christmas to you too! No I didn't notice any footwell heat than before, which was insignificant to begin with. However, I do notice that inside the engine compartment, I feel much more heat on the passenger's side. This might be due to the fact that there's more open space on that side, on the driver's side there are several components in the way to absorb the heat. Have you driven the car yet? I thought you are still buried in snow for several more weeks.
I did get the car out a few times! The car sounds like the NASCAR Santa came to my garage! I shell shocked a few ricers at stoplights.... off I went with everyone stunned (including myself)!
I did notice a big increase in heat in the engine compartment and the driver's footwell. There is a slight rubber smell from the heat. The kool socks (taylor's) are on and nothing seems to be touching. I thought it might be the rubber hose at the O2 flange on the drivers side. That gets very hot.
I am getting a code from the right rear O2 sensor and since I have the sims in I'd say I have a defective O2 sim. I'm going to put it back up and switch left with right to see if the code switches to that side? etc.
Wish I was out in CA so I could drive it more. We are being pelted with rain today (25th). Snow later I guess. Cheers.
