Default Proverbial Sun Visor issue

I just purchased a 2003 50th Anniversary Edition Pace Car convertible with 4600 miles on it. It has the ongoing issue of a broken vanity mirror cover.

I'm not opposed to purchasing a new visor or having mine rebuilt but finding a new vanity mirror assembly in shale seems to be virtually impossible.

So, many questions:
  • Anyone know where to buy assembly?
  • How about the option of shale leather sun visors with vanity mirror delete? Where to get?
  • Does buying a new cover that is black and having it painted make sense? Who still mixes and paints interior components?
Anyone have any ideas on this mess?

Thanks!

Default Anniversary Edition Sun Visors

I have an AE 2003 vert. The hinges on my sun visors mirrors broke, too. When I took them apart, I realized that they weren't made that well, so I decided to get some vinyl fabric and recover the visors myself. I don't use the mirrors, so I left them off and instead installed a HomeLink transmitter in the driver's side. I was never satisfied with the look of the fabric they used for the sun visors, so that influenced my decision.

If you plan to get black replacement sun visors, you can obtain interior paint that will allow you to pretty closely match the original colors. Here's some information on the two interior paint colors. The lightest color is called shale. Your seats are shale, and parts of the door panels. The sunvisors and the darker parts of the door panels are "Medium Dark Neutral." The shale color is GM WA149B and the darker interior color is called medium dark neutral GM WA9648.. These paints are available from forum vendors and there are other posts that give tips on how to use them.

Good Luck!

I use a magnetic mount that sticks to the dash with 3M tape. You stick a steel disk to the back of your phone and the magnet sits on a ball and socket that holds it in place on the dash and can be rotated to give you the best positioning. I'm pretty happy with it. The mounts come with a couple of extra disks so you can use multiple phones. My wife has the same mount in her car so we are compatible.
Heres a picture. A little dark, but I hope it makes sense.

After mine went south of cheese I opted for the visor delete for $15 from Corvetteclips.com. Best decision I ever made. Being a tall guy the extra visibility out the windshield sans the visors is quite significant.

I wish I ditched the visors years ago. I always have a pair of RayBans in the car anyway. And the car just looks cleaner inside without them.
