Default Blackwing or VorteX Rammer?

OK time to start digging into the engine compartment. :yesnod: Should I go with Vortex Rammer or Donaldson Blackwing? What if I add a ported throttle body? How much can a stock manifold flow?

I have the Black Wing and I like it. The Vortex is also very good but if you drive your car in the rain you stand a greater risk of hydro locking your engine. Because you have to cut your shroud to use it's cooler air feature. I doubt if you will see much of a gain in RWHP with a ported throttle body especially with a stock engine. I can't tell you how much the manifolds flow.

I have a Vortex. Just installed it 2 days ago. It works well, but the Blackwing is an easier install, and does not involve cutting the shroud. If you plan to drag race, the Vortex would probably help on the top end. If it's just a pleasure driver, the Blackwing will do fine.

I have tried all three and in my opinion the Vortex is the best of them. I jsut seem to feel it a little more. Could be wrong just my opinion.

You're in a state with alot of rain so bottom breathers (Vortex) can be risky when encountering puddles. You may not always be able to avoid the puddles, I thought I could avoid them in CA. I have/had the Vortex, but since I hydrolocked my engined on 12/16/02 , I will be switching to a Blackwing when the motor gets repaired. I liked the Vortex performance, but I gambled & lost. Your choice.

Have you thought about the K&N FIPK system? I love mine and it also has the bigger air bridge; not to mention the K&N warranty!! Just my .02 :seeya

I went with the Blackwing. Easy to install, easy to un-install. Just don't forget to get the hood seal.

././././....Both are great, I've seen Ease scans that hardly differ between the two with air intake volume........... :yesnod:
