Default Clutch Safety Switch Help

Hey all,

I’m having an issue on my new to me 2002 Z06. Long story short, the previous owner seemed to have no clue how to work on cars and it causing me a bunch of problems

So I am able to push start the car and get it running. However when I turn the key I get a click and nothing happens. Following starter wiring diagrams and my diagnostic skills from other cars, I narrowed it down to the clutch safety switch. The actual switch is there but the wiring going to it is not.

Fortunately I was able to get a ACDelco pigtail so I can get it wired back up. The only thing I cannot find for the life of me is where the wiring gets spliced into. Does anyone have photos of how it gets run and how it goes into the wiring harness? I have the wiring diagram but I need a reference so I know how this actually gets run. Once that happens, it should complete the starting procedure and turn the starter to get her running with the key.

One side of the switch goes to the TDR relay above the BCM and the other side goes to the IP Fusebox Connector C2 Pin C5 as you can see in the wiring diagram…see if the yellow wire from the TDR is there on Pin C2…don’t know what else to tell you…the wiring may be tucked away near the Clutch Pedal Switch.

The TDR relay only has 4 wires so it shouldn’t be too hard !!

A couple of thoughts. 1) Does the car have remote start? They may have bypassed the clutch switch for that. 2) removing the seat is only 4 nuts, a wire connector and about 10 minutes of your time. Getting the seat out of the way makes working under the dash much easier.

The previous owner tried to wire in some kind of push start system, but I’m not seeing how he would have been able to do it.

I’ll probably have to take the seats out and get the whole dashboard out if I even have a thought of getting to all these wires at this point.

This is where I’m at now:

Looks like all the wires for the TDR are there. I put on those quick connect solder joints to fix the last guys wiring (He T connected into the line) not super elegant but should be fine for now. Not sure where the other wire is running, is it behind that fuse box?

Thank you to everyone who has replied

It’s been a few days so I figured I would update this thread and let everyone know how I “fixed” the issue for now (the car starts!! Wooo) and I hate when threads are left unanswered so this is for future readers:

Before continuing forward:
WARNING! DO NOT DO WHAT I DID TO “FIX” THE ISSUE. THIS IS NOT A PROPER REPAIR. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

To put it simply, I got a short length of wire and jumped from the fuse 14 purple wire (this is behind the I/P fuse box) —> TDR yellow wire so the switch is always closed, therefore allowing me to start the car with no clutch safety switch. (See above diagram to see what I’m saying)

If I was going to do a proper repair, I would have followed the purple wire from fuse 14 to where it ends (mine was missing the wire on the other side to the clutch safety switch), and then wired the end to a pigtail to properly plug in and connect the switch. Sounds simple in theory but good luck trying do this in a somewhat cramped interior with a ton of wires.

I am aware of the fact that this “fix” can be extremely dangerous if you leave the car in gear, however I am simply doing this as a temporary bypass. After some close examination while doing other work, I will, at some point, have to get the interior and engine re harnessed. Why previous owners would cut wires and connectors out instead of taking some zip ties and tucking it away is beyond me (weight savings? The car is already 3116 pounds lol)
