Default Help with clutch install!

Please help. The more I search and ask questions, the more confused I am getting. I am about to install a new clutch and flywheel in my 2000 FRC.

I purchased an aluminum Fidanza flywheel and a GM clutch (steel flywheel, pressure plate and disc part # 2570806). I hope that is the right part number set up to use. Please varify this if you can.

From what I have read, I need to transfer the factory installed weights from my old flywheel to the new one. Fidanza says that the flywheel is supposed to be zero balanced, but I noticed a LOT of material taken out of the steel replacement flywheel (indicating the flywheel is NOT zero balanced like Fidanza claims).

So, do I still need to transfer the old weights to the new steel flywheel that came with the clutch I purchased? I really want to use the aluminum flywheel, but it looks like I would have to have a major amount of material removed to match the original or new steel flywheel.

What if I get rid of all the junk I purchased and get a Spec stage III. Do I still need to transfer the weights from my old flywheel? These clutches are suposed to be balanced and ready to go.

I know the best thing would have been to wait it out and have Xtreme Motorsports do the work but I have time off now with nothing else to do. Any info will be great. Thanks in advance.

Just for your info.. after I had my 418 spinning assembly balanced I had all my clutch parts checked. I also have the Findanza aluminum flywheel and it needed to be better balanced. I don't remember the amount it was off but it wasn't zero'ed! I guess the average person wouldn't notice a vibration but why take the chance. I would have the flywheel and the pressure plate checked!

Do a search, there is a lot of info on this. Basically, you must mark your orignal flywheel postion relative to the crank hub.
Then if there are weights (dowel like pins) on your flywheel, you must put new weights in the same positions on your new flywheel.
If you don't trust the Zero balance of either flywheel, you must have the new one balanced to match the old one. You still must transfer the weights or get new ones on there.
The flywheel weights on your original OEM flywheel are on there to balance your ENGINE not to balance your flywheel.
I was lucky, my original factory flywheel had no balance weights, so I could just use zero balance on the new flywheel.
All of the above is for original weight flywheels, you must call your lightweight flywheel manufacturer to make sure of what they recommend.
Hope this helps.
