Default C5 Timing cover Alignment/Install

Help!! Recently replaced the oil gasket on my c5. Now im trying to use the MR GASKET ALIGNMENT TOOL to center my timing cover to install it properly. However, its not working very well. I put the timing cover on with a couple bolts holding it on then I insert the mr. Gasket tools but it seems as though that the bottom portion of the time and coral first seeds but the top portion doesn't and I ever have to push on it and it seem like is just not sealing properly and I'm trying to determine what I'm doing wrong or what I did wrong. I am using an improved Racine oil pan gasket maybe I'm thinking that it's a little thicker than the stock GM however I am wondering if I did something different with the installation. Any help pointers or ideas would be appreciated.

Try loosening the pan bolts a few turns (if I understand properly).

Mickfree, you're doing nothing wrong. There is a simple solution to this problem. I took my locator, which I made myself, and sawed off the bottom one quarter, to maybe one third. This makes a "flat" spot on the tool, and the tool will now slide into the cover, with the flat spot facing down, towards the oil pan. This eliminates disturbing the oil pan gasket seal, as the alignment tool no longer vertically pushes down on the cover. The cover really only needs to be aligned horizontally, as the oil pan will align it vertically........
