Default Delayed start after turning key

2002 z06 and only mods are 1-3 shift bypass and steering lockout bypass. Wondering if this is normal or if something is failing. When I go the start the car and turn key and the ABS,engine light., etc. light up. Next continue to hold the keep in the starting position and the lights go off including the radio station lights; hear a click but car doesn't start immediately--but hold the key in the start position and after delay of of .5-1 seconds the engine turns over and starts. Is this normal? Is the solenoid starting to go out??? Again the car doesn't start immediately but upon holding the key in the starting position it does start but following a1-2 second delay. Does this indicate anything? Hope this makes sense. Seems to have gotten worse lately--start is delayed after turning key. I have a shutoff switch on the battery.

Thank you for your help in advance.

First thing you always want to have the battery checked…why do you have a shutoff switch on the battery ???.The click you are hearing may be the TDR relay energizing which is located above the BCM in the passengers footwell…it may be the ignition switch or starter solenoid…to check the ignition switch select battery voltage on the DIC and see what it reads when you turn the key on…if it reads 7 volts for instance you only have 5 volts going through the switch…to diagnose this you may have to do some troubleshooting so you won’t be firing the parts canon at it !!

My advice is to turn the key to the On position first, wait for the gauges to sweep and the indicators to go off before turning the key to the start position, there is a 2 second fuel pump prime, it generally helps the car fire up quicker as well.

cleaned all contacts on battery & starter; charged battery; etc. Checked the voltage when key was turned on---12.3V and waited a couple of seconds before starting. The car started every time. Thanks for all the help. Your advice was great.

Regarding the cutoff/disconnect switch---I am trying to help prevent theft of the car. AND NCRS gives bonus points during Top Flight judging if you have
1. Fire extinguisher;
2. Battery Disconnect;
3. a NCRS Decal.

My 71 LT-1 is Top Flight and I may have my 02 Z06 judged just to see if there's anything not original that I'm not aware of. Having your car judged is a great way to learn about your car; meet a lot of great people, and gives you excuse to drive your car (you get bonus points for the miles driven to the event.) Both my cars are drivers.

Again Thank You!
