Hello all, got a quick question. I drive my car a couple times a week, had it out today in town with no issues. I got in it this afternoon and now it wont start or anything. I open the door and I have lights, put the key in the ignition, no problem, turn the key and the started does 1 click and I have no lights or anything after that. Seems if I wait a little bit and try it again it does the same thing. I checked the battery at the battery and engine ground and I'm at 12.7 volts at both, tried jumping it with my other car and it did the same thing. Is it possible that my car doesn't recognize my key and not allowing it to do anything? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.
security light does come on when i open the door, when I turn the key everything goes off. If i take the key out and put it back in, there is no electrical anything going on
I would check the battery terminals, make sure you can't move the cables on the battery. There are some batteries that have shallow treaded terminals and they seem to be tight but they are really not clamping the cable to the terminals.
I assuming you have a DVOM so on the DC voltage scale attach one lead to battery positive and the other lead to fuse 25 or 23 test point (one of the 2 metal nubs) in the IP fuse box if it will reach...try to start the car and record the voltage you see on the voltmeter !!
I was able to mess with the car today and keeping my fingers crossed but I think it was just the cable not making good enough contact. I checked the bolt first and it was tight so I started messing with the wire a little and sure enough I heard a little pop like an arc and the car made some noises. I pulled the bolt out and put in a shim and tightened it up, seems to be working again so far. If something changes I'm sure I'll be asking. Thanks for the help. Now if I could just figure out where the squeak is coming from around the drivers side dash/windshield.
It is for sure. If I ever figure it out I'll let you know. I guess I need to drive around with an automotive stethoscope and try to isolate where it's coming from and going from there.
